Scholarship Opportunities for Latino Youth

The “S” in student stands for Scholarships!

What are scholarships

Scholarships are financial grants that support students in paying for their higher education, whether it's at a college, university, technical school, or other educational institutions. Unlike loans, scholarships do not need to be repaid. They come in various amounts, from $100 to $100,000 or more, and can be categorized into several types: need-based, academic, athletic, identity-specific, major-focused, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and more.

Where can I find scholarships?

Finding scholarships has never been easier with a plethora of online resources and tools at your disposal. For students in Washington, The Washboard is a valuable online matching site that lists scholarships for those aiming to attend in-state schools. Numerous other websites offer similar services, regularly updated to provide the latest opportunities. Additionally, many social media pages focus on scholarship opportunities for diverse student groups. For example, Immigrants Rising (@immigrantsrising) frequently shares scholarships for undocumented students. A useful tip is to explore relevant hashtags, as many accounts use them to broaden their reach.

Don’t forget to check local community foundations as well. Simply search for your city’s name along with “community foundation scholarships” to discover additional opportunities.

Does Clark County have a community foundation?

Yes, Clark County does! The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington (CFSW) is dedicated to promoting and sustaining charitable giving in the region, including providing scholarships for students pursuing higher education. In 2022, CFSW awarded over 300 scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 each. One notable feature of the CFSW scholarship application process is the Eligibility Quiz, which helps you quickly determine which scholarships are right for you. Plus, the quiz information auto-fills in future applications, streamlining the process.
