Letter to the Community

“As the end of year draws near, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for an amazing year. The success of Latino Leadership NW is based on the relationships we have built over the years, and we really wouldn’t be where we are without you.

Over this past year we have added staff, contractors, new programs and partnerships. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with, and for the community. Our passion for helping our community, build social capital for emerging youth leaders find amazing people, partnerships and implementing equity and anti-racist practices remains strong.

It has been an amazing year, one that has stretched us and provided insight into our direction.

Latino Leadership Northwest (LLNW) is already an incredibly valuable space for advocacy and opportunity for the community and Latino youth in the Clark County area. We celebrated our 11th anniversary, hosted our annual youth leadership conference in-person. We continued programs in 2022, Orugas a Mariposas Mentorship Program and the Youth Behavioral Health Program. We continued to host hybrid workshops for self-care and we consistently host programs to support youth, parents, young professionals, and social justice activities in our community But we believe we can do more.

The programs and services already offered by our team are valuable on such a large scale there is room for growth. With that in mind, we are looking at our vision and mission, and we believe the way forward starts with our organization’s leaders —our board of directors. Our new board will support LLNW’s mission to further the movement to implement, stabilize and normalize equity and social justice. In addition, the board will lead us in developing sustainable revenue streams and our successful mentoring programs.

This year has been filled with a multitude of both challenges and victories. Every year is different but this one has been filled with more change than normal. Our world is evolving quickly, and recruitment for LLNW board members has been changing along with it. It has been reassuring to see the high level of excitement from community members interested in serving on the LLNW Board.

Currently, the LLNW board is comprised of three trusted individuals who have been with the organization since the beginning. Their commitment to LLNW has helped us become the organization we are today. This year, we welcome four new board members who will represent the different voices and perspectives of our community and be advocates for our mission and interests. Particularly they will reflect leadership, youth mentorship, social justice, equity, and sustainability.

We anticipate that these new members will come from various types of professions and will represent different age groups, gender identities, backgrounds, and accessibility perspectives. No matter what the economic and political climate has been, we have persevered together as a team and as a community - and have come out stronger. Often, we find our greatest successes in the most surprising places.

We know there will be many challenges ahead. But we are so excited for what 2023 has in store for us – Latino Leadership NW will embark on finding a new Executive Director and we are encouraged by the enthusiasm and anticipation building around our new board of directors. I want to send out a heartfelt thank you to our LLNW team for everything you stand for,and everything you are committed to, not just today but every day.

So, with this year soon behind us, let’s enter 2023 filled with hope for a better future.”
